Many people start working to improve their ability to attract global jobs, first-world education, or relocate to other countries when it is too late. By the time they are in the Canada Express Entry pool, for instance, age is no longer on their side, or they do not have the education to be ahead of the competition. The same scenario applies to other countries. The older you get, the more difficult it becomes (at least for most people).
But what if you could position your university-age children for global careers from their youth? What if you could get them started right away and give them that early start?
What if they can get access to UK education while in Nigeria, positioning themselves for further study in the UK or elsewhere, and work options around the world?
Here is a secret: reach out to us at Twim Institute and find out about our BCS (British Computer Society) program.
Your wards can study full time (or online) at Twim Institute, write their first and second-year exams (known as Levels 4 and 5), and proceed to the UK for their final year (called a top-up) at universities such as the University of Huddersfield. Alternatively, they can complete the program without leaving Nigeria by topping up online with universities such as the University of Derby or the University of Lincoln. Another option is to opt for a Professional Graduate Diploma from BCS.
It gets better. Each level comes with its own certificate issued directly by BCS (known officially as BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT) in the UK. Students are not under pressure to proceed to another level as each level depicts a corresponding stage of proficiency in the IT industry. The first level, the Level 4 Certificate, is like having a UK National Diploma. The second level, the Level 5 Diploma, is like having an HND from the UK. The final level, the Level 6 Graduate Diploma, is degree-level.
BCS HEQs can serve as both academic and professional qualifications. They are accredited by Ofqual, the government regulator in the UK.
Here are answers to some of the common questions:
1. “My child is an undergraduate at a university in Nigeria. Can (s)he study the BCS HEQs?”
The HEQs are very flexible, with exams available twice every year. Your ward can enroll in online classes at Twim Institute and combine that with his / her existing university program. That way, (s)he would be positioned for the global job market right from graduation.
2. “What if my child has been in an unrelated field or is studying a course other than IT?”
Well, that’s the beauty of the BCS program. It provides you with a degree-level option to get into the IT industry even if that wasn’t your background.
3. What if my child has not passed JAMB UTME, or is not in school? Can (s)he study this program and possibly earn a UK degree?
Yes! At Twim Institute, there are full-time BCS students, typically from age 17 upwards, who are studying full-time. Some of them live on campus, within the hostel.
BCS is not a Nigerian body, does not conduct admissions through JAMB, and does not issue certificates from within Nigeria. It is a UK awarding body. As explained above, students can study up to level 6 and receive a Graduate Diploma from BCS, or top-up at level 5 at a university (such as those mentioned above) to receive a bachelor’s degree.
4. What are the opportunities in IT and how can BCS qualifications help access them?
Information Technology is one of the most in-demand sectors in the world at the moment. There are relatively quick migration options for professionals in the sector virtually everywhere: the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, and others. BCS HEQs (Higher Education Qualifications) are accredited government-recognized British qualifications. Besides being able to use them to top-up (and migrate) to the UK, they are well-accepted all around the world (including by WES for Canada Express Entry). BCS is also a signatory to the Seoul Accord, which is a recognition agreement between the computer societies of the UK, Australia, Canada, the United States, South Korea, etc. You can be sure that BCS qualifications can open doors for you around the world!
5. What is the advantage of training at Twim Institute?
Twim Institute is a vocational school that prioritizes hands-on, practical learning and is an accredited centre of the British Computer Society. Twim Institute is NOT a tutorial centre. It is a registered, government-approved, international award-winning vocational school located in Ibadan, Nigeria. Whether you choose to learn full-time on campus, or online via e-learning, you can be sure of a conducive atmosphere, detailed classes, and lots of resources to help you succeed.
